Calm water, redwood-shaded banks, and a five-mile drift that almost paddles itself.

The Russian River between Forestville and Guerneville is the rare beginner kayak trip that feels like a real adventure without acting like one. ## The route We put in at Steelhead Beach and float roughly five river miles to Sunset Beach. The current does most of the work; you steer, swim if you want, and stop on gravel bars for lunch. ## What to bring - Swimsuit and quick-dry layers - A hat and reef-safe sunscreen - Water shoes or old sneakers - A dry bag for your phone (we provide one) ## Wildlife to watch for Great blue herons, river otters if you're patient and quiet, osprey overhead, and the occasional bald eagle in winter and early spring. ## Difficulty Class I, flat-water summer flows. Kids 8+ in their own boat, younger in a tandem with an adult. No prior experience needed; we give a launch-side lesson before you push off. ## After A cold pour at a riverside winery is the traditional reward. We can build the shuttle around it.
